CCP Slogan

Covid Slogan on the Regional Level

Throughout China, there were many interesting or extreme slogans regarding the slogan policy. In the following post, I will be translating and interpreting these slogans into English.

English Translation: Wearing a mask is always better than being on a ventilator; Staying at home is always better than being in the ICU

This slogan highlights the importance of preventive measures such as wearing masks to reduce the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19. It emphasizes that taking precautions, such as wearing masks, is much more preferable than facing severe illness and needing intensive care in the ICU. Staying at home, when possible, helps reduce the chances of exposure to the virus and the need for hospitalization.

English Translation: Stay at home to prevent infection, even if your father-in-law comes, you still have to send him away

This expression highlights the need of staying at home and following infection-prevention procedures, even if it means turning away visitors like your father-in-law. It emphasizes the importance of health and safety during times of infection risk, implying that it is critical to prioritize everyone’s well-being by minimizing needless contact and potential sickness transmission.

English Translation: If you visit your parents this year, you will be visiting your parents’ grave next year

Traditionally, it is important for Chinese people to visit their parents, spend time with them, and take care of them while they are alive. This slogan suggests even if it is necessary for people to visit their parents, this visit during covid could potentially cause their health in danger. By using this expression, the government tries to tell the people that it is good not to visit their parents, and they will understand because of the critical situation during Covid.

English Translation: People who have a fever but don’t report it are all hidden class enemies among the masses.

This slogan promotes a rather extreme and divisive perspective. It is important, especially during Covid, to approach such statements with caution and avoid labeling individuals or groups based solely on specific symptoms or behaviors. By using this extreme expression, the local government conveys a strong message that there would be severe punishment if people don’t report any Covid symptoms (in this case fever) to the residents’ committee.

English Translation: Today, if you indulge in wild animal such as snakes or pangolins, tomorrow you will meet with your friend in the underworld.

Many, especially the Chinese government, believe the spread of Covid-19 is caused by eating bats, snakes, or other wild animals. This slogan conveys a warning about the potential consequences of eating wild animals. In this case, it suggests that if one consumes any form of wild animals, which may carry health risks, their life will be in danger. It serves as a reminder to be cautious and mindful of the potential risks ad consequences of eating wild animals.
